“I am extremely pleased with the video opener Jay and Lars produced for my Internet based business. They walked me through every aspect of the process including a precise and powerful script, guidance in the types of scenes that would really make my video stand out and interest the viewer, as well as how I could maximize the way I spoke and conveyed my message. They also did a spectacular job in editing the final product, which looked highly professional and polished. They put me at ease throughout the entire process and really delivered exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend JBC Communications.”

Program emphasizes achievable lifestyle goals

PORTSMOUTH, NH – JBC Communications, an Emmy-honored video production and public relations company, has signed the York, Maine-based company Living Lean & Healthy. Living Lean & Healthy, founded by Dr. Jennifer Schiel, offers person-to-person consultation on lifestyle goals that is accompanied by a cookbook emphasizing healthy eating.

JBC will be supporting Living Lean & Healthy’s online video promotions.

“What was inspiring to us about this project was Living Lean & Healthy’s approach to lifestyle changes. So many programs promote impossible goals that people soon grow tired of and abandon. Dr. Schiel’s approach was much more reasonable and success-oriented,” said JBC Director Jay Childs. “Our job was to capture Jen’s personality and the benefits of her program in a vibrant video format.”

The video introduction to Living Lean & Healthy will be shown at www.liveleanandhealthy.com.

“This video gives me complete confidence in selling my product online. I feel proud. JBC did a fabulous job!” said Dr. Schiel. “You guys are the best!”

“In many communities, especially in New Hampshire, it was beginning to happen, in part, by design,” Childs said. “Enabling younger adults to get a toehold in the region was becoming a problem.” One solution Childs’ film featured was the rise of organizations for young professionals, such as Catapult Seacoast, launched in Portsmouth in 2006. Catapult’s mission resonated with Childs. “I thought it was important to assist Catapult any way I could to get their message out,” he said.

In December, at a party at The Red Door on State Street marking its fourth anniversary, Catapult honored Childs with its J.T. O’Donnell Award.

“Jay has been a great friend and supporter over the years, and we wanted to thank him for his contribution of time and resources to help our organization,” said Helen Donington, Catapult chairwoman and co-founder.

“I’m shocked and humbled,” said Childs, who founded JBC Communications in 1996.

Childs’ film won the 2008 New Hampshire Documentary Film Award at the New Hampshire Film Festival, aired numerous times on N.H. Public Television and traveled the state, attending screenings that often included panel discussions to spark discussion on talent retention.

The film helped put Catapult in the vanguard of organizations helping young professionals set roots in their community.

Childs calls JBC a “video production, interactive design, and consulting firm,” one that serves clients of all sizes, including Irving Oil, New England Footwear, Segway and Timberland.

“Most of our training is in communications and storytelling, and video just happens to be the primary outlet of that,” Childs said. “We bring a filmmaker’s sensibility to each project and serve people who value having high-quality video.”

In 2010, New Hampshire Business Review named JBC New Hampshire’s Best Video Production Company award winner.

Childs recently videotaped responses to Catapult’s signature question: What’s the number one thing somebody can do to catapult their career? This was filmed during Catapult’s new business seminar series featuring established local professionals such as filmmaker Chase Bailey, creating promotional clips to post on Catapult’s Web site, and his own.

“Even though I’m 45 and technically out of their demographic, I try to support their endeavor in any way I can,” Childs said.

The award is named for career expert J.T. O’Donnell, founder and president of Careerealism.com, who was a key contributor and mentor to Catapult’s founders during its first year. O’Donnell received the inaugural award in 2007 and has presented at many of its seminars.

“We decided to name the award after her and annually acknowledge someone from the community who goes above and beyond to further Catapult’s mission,” Donington said.

Past recipients of the J.T. O’Donnell Award include Stephen Reno, former University System of New Hampshire chancellor and catalyst for the 55% Initiative, who won in 2008, and Craig Davis, Catapult’s longest-standing volunteer, who won in 2009.

Portsmouth, NH- JBC Communications is proud to announce they have been voted as
“Best Video Production Company” in the New Hampshire Business Review’s2010 Best of Business (BOB) Awards. JBC Director Jay Childs and Associate Producer Tom Bennett  were recognized at the BOB Awards event Thursday, March 11, at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, NH, which honored those companies in the state that other businesspeople have voted “the Best” with which to do business.

“We are proud to be honored for this award”, said JBC Communications Director Jay Childs. “We accept this award as a testament to our clients who voted for us and who time and again trust us to communicate their stories through video and interactive media. It is a responsibility we take very seriously. It also happens to be our passion and I think our clients sense that.”

“With more than 2,400 ballots cast for the 2010 awards, the BOBs have really become a standard of excellence in New Hampshire’s business community,” said Jeff Feingold, editor of New Hampshire Business Review “If other business owners have named your business a BOB business, it really says something about the high caliber of the company you’re running.”

“Video is coming into its own in terms of a primary media tool in a company’s or non-profits communications arsenal. There are so many more innovative ways to deploy video content from advertising, sales and PR, to training, fundraising and branding. We look forward to continuing this commitment to excellence, and to also continuing to give back to the community through our strategic partnerships with Cross Roads House and Catapult Seacoast in Portsmouth, and the Forum on the Future, through the NH College and University Council in Concord.”

The Best of Business Awards are presented by NHBR and are sponsored by: FairPoint Communications, Centrix Bank, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Charter Trust, Comcast Business Class, Walden University, RAM Printing, Southwest Airlines, NH Business Resource Center and WZID. New Hampshire Business Review is the state’s only business newspaper, reaching over 50,000 readers every other week. It is part of McLean Communications of Manchester, a publishing company that also includes New Hampshire Magazine, ParentingNH and New Hampshire Home Magazine.
